The looks the neighbors have been giving me when I load my kids into a car that is filled nearly to the roof with packages…..   

I have heard that question more than once in my life.  I heard it when I decided to write my first book.  I heard it when I decided to quit my job and work from home….  and now I am hearing it because I have decided to build a 10 foot tall building.

“What in the world has made you think you could build a 10 foot high work shop?”

To which I reply, “What in the world made you think I could not?”

Just because you have never done something before, does not mean that you can’t!  There is a first time for EVERYTHING.

There is a big difference between knowing the law of attraction, and living the law of attraction.

Knowing the law of attraction to many people means trying to feel good and keep a positive attitude.  They may even focus on manifesting something once and a while.

LIVING a life in harmony with the law of attraction, began with the teachings in the Secret Course.   I used manifesting Cards until they became a such an ingrained thing… a way of life for me…  that this is now how I live.

You see, it is true that I have no idea how to build a workshop, but I envisioned myself using this workshop.  Each night I used a manifesting card and FELT grateful for my new workshop.

Sooo…..   I buy the wood, and I have the plans, and even though I have NO WAY of knowing HOW this building will be constucted, I DO KNOW THAT IT WILL BE.  That certainty has a calming effect.

You see, the old me would have panicked over the details.  The old me would say “I can never do that”….  but I no longer allow such such limiting thoughts.

One way or another, it will be done.   It took me over a week to build the floor and foundation.  Each time a negative thought entered my mind, I would release it and let it leave as easily as it had come in.

I had no idea that my good friend John was going to stop in from out of town.   It turns out that his wife was out of state with family and he was more than happy to help me erect the walls.

What perfect timing too, because I had just finished the raised floor, and spent a great deal of time getting it level.

Sunday, we were able to erect all four walls.  It was amazing.  My neighbors couldn’t believe how fast we put this thing up.  In fact, we even had time to build the gable roof raters.

What was even more amazing was how much fun we had doing it.  We kept laughing like school kids and having a great time telling stories and catching up.  It didn’t even feel like work.  It all flowed perfectly.

I enjoyed my visit with John, and getting the building up was a great bonus!

Monday I have finished all of the project except for sheeting the roof.

Now I have to admit that the roof seems nearly impossible to nail on, since it is 12 feet in the air and I don’t feel that the rafters are strong enough for me to stand on (I am, and always have been, a large man).

Yes, I could hire someone….   I always could have hired someone, but I wanted the experience of doing it myself.  I am very happy having built the entire building, to hire someone just for the roof.

Here it is Tuesday, and I am set to hire someone when another friend of mine calls me up from down my street.  He offers to come over and help me with the roof today after he gets off work.

I had no idea how it was going to be built, only the certainty that it would.

When you manifest something, think of  it as destiny.  It is destined to be.  The universe will make it so, as long as you don’t hesitate (the universe loves speed) and as long as you are ready and willing to take some form of action.

Keep in mind that whenever you decide to do something new with your life, people will try to stop you.  They can’t see your new vision, and they will try to hold you back.  For various reasons, they like the old you and don’t like the idea of change.

When I decided to write my first book, my own mom said something along the lines of “Why would anyone read what you have to say?”.   She didn’t see me as a writer, and she wanted to keep me the way she saw me.

Don’t let anyone stop you.  I didn’t even allow myself to get angry at my mother for such an insensitive remark, because that would have taken me further off course.  Instead, I kept my vision of helping people and kept writing what eventually became one of the best selling Law of Attraction courses of all time.

Yes, I did have friends who believed in me, and some who even encouraged me to write the book(s) because they saw how much my the law of attraction had changed my life.

As a parent, I have learned a lot about life from my three children.  This Saturday, my nine year old son, Logan, showed me the difference in thinking between children and adults.

It was a HUGE lesson for me… and aside from being a cute story, I offer it up to reveal this hidden truth for you as well!

- – Saturday – -

Logan and I were out running various errands together.  Our last stop took us to Subway for a nice healthy sub sandwich.

It had been a good day and all of our stops had gone smoothly, just as I had envisioned.

I ordered my sandwich first, with every vegetable they had, and a drink.  Logan then ordered a foot long sandwich for the first time, with chips and a drink.  He was pretty hungry that day and excited about the possibility of having some left over for lunch the next day.

When the person making the sandwiches rang up our order, it came to $13.87 which coincidently was the EXACT amount of cash I had left in my wallet.  Sure, I had my debit card with me and several credit cards, so if it had been more it wouldn’t have mattered because I had access to all of my money.   That’s not the point….  It was the fact that the total was the exact amount of money… TO THE PENNY that I had on me.

We both were talking about how neat that was as we carried our meals to our table.  Logan’s little smile was ear to ear.

Then for a moment, he looked sad.  I asked him what was wrong, and he said “Oh Nothing” which is usually code for “ask me again dad”.  So I asked him again if there was anything on his mind.

“I just realized that I wanted a cookie and I know you won’t use one of your cards for a one dollar cookie”

He was correct.  I don’t like to use my debit cards for such a small amount.  Being a business owner I know first hand that the fees the bank charges per sale means that the store would actually loose money on a one dollar item.

The only employee there was now sweeping the floor because he was getting ready to close early.  He had already pulled the chips rack.  We were the only customers in the place.  Maybe he had already shut down the ATM/Credit Card machine?

“But that’s okay.  I am going to think positive and I know that a cookie will show up”

My first thought was how in the world is he going to do that?  I sat there thinking about logical things such as nearby ATM’s or making a larger purchase.  Then I was thinking about how he probably doesn’t even need a sugar laden cookie anyway.

“It’s okay Dad.  I’m using the law of attraction” he said with a grin.

Ha Ha Ha.  I burst out laughing.  Of course this required an explanation on my part because Logan could not see anything funny about this.

Leave it to a child to show an adult what living in the moment is all about.  As an adult, I use the Law of Attraction in big ways on what I think are important things.  Such as keeping myself healthy… and attracting wealth to me.  I’ve used it for a house and for a car…  but never for a cookie.

At that moment in time, Logan wanted a cookie.  Not a thousand dollars…. Not a mansion… not a new car… he wanted a cookie and he had faith that he would get one.

I explained to him why I had laughed and how proud of him I was.

He told me “I learned it all from you Dad… and from reading your book”

Which is true….  I had taught him about the Law of Attraction. In fact, Logan was one of the first people in the world to read the  Manifesting Cards eBook.

The first thing he did was to manifest himself a brand new bicycle that was nearly identical to mine (18 speeds, chrome and purple, etc)…  a bike that I had no idea that was even made….  But that’s a story for another time.

We both went back to eating our sandwiches.  I couldn’t have been happier with my son than at that moment.  We sat there smiling at each other enjoying our food, when suddenly Logan saw the sticker on the wrapper of my sandwich.

It was a SubWay Scrabble game piece that said “More ways to win”.  I peeled it off and it said “Sorry, not an instant winner”  Logan found his an peeled it and it said the same.

For a moment I sat surprised.  I thought wow… that seemed like the perfect way to win a free cookie.  Of course I wasn’t even sure that cookies were offered as a prize.

He didn’t look sad though.  He still had faith that he was going to get a cookie somehow… some way.  The how was not his job.  His job was the absolute unwavering faith…  and he had it.

That’s when I noticed that there were game pieces on our cups also.

He peeled his back and it said “You’ve won a 12 oz fountain drink”.  That’s pretty neat… but not what we were hoping for.

Logan said “You must have the cookie then!” referring to the game piece I had not peeled off of my cup yet.

I peeled the game piece from my cup and sure enough I had won a free cookie.

YES! – Logan and I celebrated.

“I knew it,” Logan said.

A month from now Logan may not remember this incident, but this is a prime example of how the Law of Attraction can be used in the moment.  It’s a great lesson to all of us to live in the moment.

You may not have a million dollars at this moment, but maybe what you really want is a cookie.

PS – It’s a great idea to keep a journal of all the times you have used the law of attraction.  This way you can look back over all your past successes if you ever find your faith wavering.

Sounds a little vague right?  But it’s true, and I’ll explain it to you very specifically.

If you think that something is harder for you to achieve, it will take longer for you to get.  It is YOU that is forcing the delay.  It is your belief.

That is why I suggest people start with something they consider small.  Whatever it is that you consider small and easy, that is the best place for you to begin.  IF you perceive it as easy and quick, you will be able to manifest it much quicker and that will build your confidence and allow you to advance.

You also want to make sure that you are putting more in than you are taking out.

The Metaphorical Water Model

Allow me to illustrate these three factors for you in a manner that may make this concept clearer, using a metaphorical model.

We have no way of measuring how much vibrational energy it takes to manifest something, but for the sake of our metaphorical model, we will have to assign a number value.  The number is not meant to be an absolute; it is merely a representation for the purpose of this model.

You already know that you vibrate at many different frequencies, and this vibrational energy is what is sent out to the universe.  In our metaphor, we will use water to represent vibrational energy and a large container to represent the universe.

Say a man named Fred desired to manifest himself a new car.  Using our water metaphor, we assign the amount of water it will take to manifest Fred’s new car as 50 gallons of water.

Our hypothetical Fred believes that he can manifest this car and he feels grateful for already owning his new car.  Each time he uses the Manifesting with Gratitude Cards method, he is sending a cup of water out to the universe.

Again, these numbers are merely representational for the vibrational energy and they should not be taken literally.

Using this model, Fred will need to use the Manifesting Cards 800 times to fill our model 50-gallon barrel to the top, and thus manifest his dream car into reality.

If Fred uses the cards twice per day, once in the morning and once before bed, it will take him 400 days, or a little over a year, to manifest his new car.

Fred has taken our course and he knows that if he uses the Gratitude Cards more often, he will speed up the amount of time it takes to manifest his dream car.  Our friend Fred decides he is going to use the cards five times a day and now it will only take 160 days, or a little over 5 months to manifest.

As Fred goes along in life, he sees more and more proof that this manifesting stuff really works.  He has been manifesting smaller things for himself and so his belief has doubled.  He is sure his car is on the way and he imagines himself driving it every time he uses the Manifesting Cards.

Because Fred’s belief has doubled, he is now putting two cups of water into the barrel each time he uses the Manifesting cards, and he has now cut the amount of time required in half!  Using his cards five times a day it will now take our friend just 80 days, or a tad over two and a half months to manifest his dream car.

What if Fred develops doubts about his ability to manifest?  What if he begins to think that this isn’t going to work?  On those days, Fred would actually be taking water out of the 50-gallon barrel and he would be increasing the amount of time it takes to fill the barrel and manifest his new car.

If Fred had doubts everyday or a belief that he did not deserve a new car, he would be putting holes into the 50-gallon barrel and draining it as fast as or faster than he is able to fill it and thus making it nearly impossible to ever manifest his dream car.

I hope that this metaphorical model is able to give you an idea of how the process really works.  Although we have no way of measuring vibrational energy in exact numbers in real life, we do know that the more often you use the method, the quicker the results come.  Stronger feelings and beliefs also speeds up the manifesting process.

On the other hand, we know that if you have doubts or conflicting beliefs, then it will take longer for you to manifest your desires.  If your negativity, doubts and conflicting beliefs actually overpower your positive belief in manifesting, you will not be able to manifest what you desire at all.

In summary, the stronger the feeling and the more often you visit the feeling, the quicker you will manifest what you are feeling.

I must tell you that I didn’t begin by learning what is called “The Law of Attraction”.  In fact my wife and I began using this power in the later 90′s.   We called it “Bending Reality”.   Somehow we realized that we could bend or change our reality by using our minds.   I never thought of it as a attracting change…   and honestly I still think that our definition of “bending reality” is probably more accurate than “Law of Attraction”, which is how it has become known today.

Once I had this realization, that I could bend and change my reality, everything began changing in my life.  I think people around me noticed even faster than I did.

Looking back, I would have to say that I am as near opposite of who I use to be as is humanly possible.

I use to be very high strung and now I am relaxed.

I use to be a bouncer at a bar and I engaged in physical confrontations nightly…. Now I am a peace seeker and have not been in a any kind of physical confrontation since 1999.

I use to drink alcohol daily and now I rarely ever drink and if I do it is in moderation.

I use to be quick tempered… I use to have anxiety… I use to be stressed out all the time… I use to hold grudges for years…. Now I am the opposite of these as well.

Words can not describe it, but I live in a completely different world now.

Where I USE to attract conflicts everywhere I went, life now runs smoothly for me.

Where I use to have lack I now have abundance.

Where I use to have a job, I now have multiple streams of income.

I don’t take life so seriously now. I see messages in my environment daily… like little winks from the universe.  I often recognize external manifestations as previous internal thoughts and feelings.

Whenever I see something I desire, or a change I want to occur in life, I simply write it on my Manifesting Card and I KNOW that change will take place.  I have learned to trust in the universe to care for me.

I used to hate life and hate a lot of people… now I love life and everyone and everything in it.

I use to expect the worst and I usually received it.  Now I expect the best and usually get that.

I use to weight 120lbs more than I currently weigh, and I use to try to loose weight.

I use to attract misery to myself and I had a tendency to wallow in it.   Now I attract situations with happy endings and fun-filled adventure.

I guess my old life was spent warring with the world and focused on destruction while I am now at peace with my past and focus on creation and helping of others.

I use to serve people spirits (alcohol) for a living, which was damaging to their bodies, and now I serve people uplifting spiritual writings and focus on healing peoples spirits and bodies.

I use to save every cent I scraped together…  I was a real penny pincher. I would forgo enjoyment for the security of money in the bank.  I always expected a “rainy day”, and I often had them. I didn’t take vacations because I would rather have more money. Now I live mostly in a state of enjoyment. I take many vacations and I always know that the money will take care of itself. It always does.  I expect sunny days and that is what I tend to receive.

My life has truly done a 180 degree turn around.

Once you know the truth… really KNOW it… you can never go back.

I don’t mean forcing yourself to believe a certain thing. I don’t mean choosing to believe a certain thing. I mean discovering a truth larger than you… larger than words… once you do this… you can never turn back.

It’s similar to telling a child that there is no Santa. No matter how hard you try, once you realize that there is no Santa, you can never go back to believing in Santa. No matter how hard you try.

It is an ancient belief that everything is connected.  Many philosophers have debated that nothing is real.  How can this be?

Even further “out there” is the belief that everything that appears to be external in your world is really internal in nature.  Does that mean that reality as we know it is nothing more than a projection of our minds?  It would imply that nothing really happens TO YOU, but rather that everything happens BY YOU, or because of you.

It’s a rather complicated subject, and as I warned you above it is very “out there” in nature.  But if you will open your mind for a moment, I think that a simple analogy will make this all much clearer.

Once you understand this, you will know:

How the law of attraction REALLY works

Why when you hurt others you are really hurting yourself

Why what is inside of you appears in the world outside of you…

and how judging others is really just you judging yourself.

How we are all connected and why nothing truly is separate, despite appearances.

Honestly, it will answer MANY of life’s biggest questions…  if you can just wrap you mind around this one concept.

So, without further ado, let us take a look at this HUGE CONCEPT using something that everyone is familiar with… dreaming while you sleep.  We’ll use a common dream that people can relate to….

Being chased is a common dream.   So I will create a dream of being chased so that we can take a look at it for what it really is.

—————–  BEGIN DREAM ——————————–

Imagine yourself having a dream where you are walking down a dark alley late at night.  Everything seems fine until you hear a sickening sound…   a sound that doesn’t belong in an empty alleyway.

Immediately all the hair stands up on the back of your neck.  You know that sound.  You have heard it hundreds of times in movies and on television…  it was the sound of a shotgun being pumped.

Nervously, you pick up your pace looking over your right shoulder to see a dark figure running toward you.

Your nerves scream…  a coldness runs from your head to your feet and you feel like your legs are about to give out… luckily they don’t and the next thing you know you are running as fast as you can down the alley, away from the dark figure.

You can hear a guttural grunting behind you.  He footsteps seem much faster than your own.  There is no doubt…  he is catching up quickly.

You turn the corner to your left and run headlong into a female police officer.  You fall to the ground, smashing your head onto the pavement.  You feel the sting of open flesh on your forehead.

The officer recognizes the horror on your face and immediately draws her gun.

Just then the dark figure turns the corner, with shotgun in hand.  Seeing the cop, his feet slide out from under him as he tries to stop.   As he falls backward his gun goes off into the air, breaking the silence of the night in a thunderous explosion that echoes off the walls of the buildings that make up the alley.

Three more gun shots ring out as the officer fires her hand gun at the dark figure.

Blood begins to pool around the dark figure.

You wake up in your bed covered in a cold sweat.

—————–  END DREAM ——————————–

What can we learn from this dream?
#1 was the dream real?

YES… the dream was 100% real, WHILE you had the dream.  The laws of the universe were in full effect.  There were consequences for your actions.  There were other people.  Everything was real  UNTIL YOU WOKE UP.

Once you woke up…  THEN you decided that the dream was not real.  The new state of being that you were experiencing was what you then defined as real.

#2 Who was the bad guy?

The dark figure was the bad guy in the dream.  He was chasing you.  He most likely wanted to kill you and you were not going to stick around long enough to find out.

#3 Who was the good guy?

The police officer that saved your life was the good guy.  OR good girl, as the case may be.  What a lucky break it was that you ran into her just in the nick of time.

#4 Who were you?

Duh!  You were the person being chased by the dark figure.  You ran into the police officer and she saved your life.

#5 Now answer questions #2, #3 and #4 AFTER waking up.

Now that you are awake, and you can see the dream for what it really was, you KNOW that NOTHING was what it seemed.

Who was the bad guy?  YOU were the bad guy.  You were also the police officer.  You were EVERYTHING in the dream.

During the dream, you were able to SOMEHOW separate your conscious mind from the rest of the dream, and you were able to limit your abilities.  In all honestly, you REALLY were unlimited in power.  You could have done ANYTHING, because you were the creator of the entire world.

You were the god of that universe, so to speak.  Because the entire dream took place inside a world that you created, there is nothing that you couldn’t do.  You could have created any scenario and been anyone you wanted.

Amazingly, you chose to create a single person, in this case the near victim of a crime, and you limited your perceptions and your abilities to that one single person.

BUT, even though you were not aware of it at the time, you were also the dark figure that was chasing what you thought was you.  You also created the police woman, even though you perceived them both as being outside of you.

Let’s face it, you created the alley, the buildings, the even the very ground that you walked upon.

You perceived EVERYTHING in the dream as being separate from you.  You thought you were limited in power.  You thought that everything was happening outside of you.

NONE of those things were true.

In fact, everything you thought was actually the opposite.

Now…  what are you going to think about this world…  when you wake up?

Daily Affirmations

The most commonly employed method of people who are learning to think positive, is daily affirmations. Daily affirmations are a powerful tool, but most people do not use them correctly. Take this statement for example: “I will be a millionaire someday!”

If you recite that statement with feeling repeatedly, it is guaranteed to work,… if your goal is to never become a millionaire!! That affirmation is so destructive you would be far better off not using it at all.

I had a client, Trina Johnson, approach me on my web site www.JohnDerrick.com. She told me that she had been using daily affirmations in an attempt to land a better job for the last four months. She had been making the same mistake as the example above and of course, she never had any success.

In fact, she told me that she felt she was on the verge of losing the job that she currently held and that it was the only thing supporting her and her son. We worked together and made a few simple changes to her personal affirmations and in less than six weeks she had a management position at a local furniture store. Not only was her hourly wage higher, but more importantly her work environment was clean and safe, which is something she wanted desperately but certainly didn’t have in her previous job.

Manifesting Cards harness all the power of daily affirmations, just in the nature of their use. Later I will explain in detail how to word these correctly and what to watch out for.

Again, this is a very powerful tool, but one that is considerably dangerous if you don’t know what you are doing. Affirmations work directly on your subconscious mind by programming it with beliefs, so we have to be careful to program it correctly.

Affirmations use the repetition that fuels all learning, because you repeat the affirmation over and over until it programs your subconscious mind with the new belief. I am sure you can see how damaging it could be if you were to use a destructive affirmation.

In many ways your subconscious mind is more powerful than your conscious mind, because your subconscious mind is active at all times. The main job of your conscious mind is to selectively program your subconscious mind.

You are obviously aware of what your conscious mind is currently thinking about and what it is creating. If you use your conscious mind to think in a certain way, day after day, you develop a habit, and this habitual thinking programs your subconscious mind.

Your subconscious mind acts on its own, independent of your conscious mind, 24 hours a day. It has been programmed by your past thoughts, past actions, dreams, desires, and experiences.

It is in this way that a daily affirmation, used repetitively, will develop a new belief system for your subconscious mind. So if you carefully choose a daily affirmation, you can actively choose to program your subconscious mind with any belief that you desire.

What is in your subconscious mind right now? What is it manifesting for you in your life? How did those beliefs get put there?

Repetition is learning. You might notice that I repeat certain things in this course or phrase the same concept in more than one way. That’s because repetition is learning, and I want you to learn these key points, so I repeat.

How do you get a young child to learn to count? Repetition. How do you learn to ride a bicycle, or pledge allegiance to the flag, or say the alphabet? Repetition. How does an advertiser get you to hum their jingle? Repetition.

If you repeat it enough, it becomes a belief. Beliefs are powerful things. Therefore, using affirmations are powerful things because they create beliefs, and your beliefs are creating your entire reality.
