Conquering Fears

“He who is not everyday conquering some fear has not learned the secret of life.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson

We all have fears, whether we admit them or not.  There is nothing wrong with being afraid, it is how you deal with the fear that defines who you are.

There is nothing brave about being fearless.  Fearless people are either fools, children or psychopaths.  Bravery is when one feels fear, but acts in spite of the fear anyway.

Most of our fears are more subtle than a phobia.

PHOBIA:

n.

  1. A persistent, abnormal, and irrational fear of a specific thing or situation that compels one to avoid it, despite the awareness and reassurance that it is not dangerous.
  2. A strong fear, dislike, or aversion.

Examples of Phobias:   Fear of heights, fear of spiders, fear of snakes, fear of situations , fear of dogs, fear of thunder and lightening, fear of injects, fear of germs, fear of hospitals, fear of social situations and the  fear of flying.

Phobias are strong and often over powering fears.  In the past it has been quite a challenge for psychiatrists to help people overcome phobias.

Many people have turned to NLP to overcome their phobias.  I myself used NLP SECRET to overcome a fear of heights.

So if you have a phobia, I highly recommend you check out the review I did for NLP Secret (here) and read the 60+ comments people have left.  This is a successful program.

The kind of fears that Ralph Waldo Emerson was talking about are our smaller everyday fears.  Being afraid to ask for a raise or confront a coworker, neighbor or friend.  A lot of people are afraid to loose weight and that is why they sabotage their weight loss efforts.
Fear of failure stops many people from even trying to reach for something better in life while fear of success keeps you from ever truly succeeding.
.
We all have our little fears and anxieties, so if you feel like you are constantly overcoming new fears daily, then pat yourself on the back for doing a great job.  Those who overcome their daily fears are on the right path and are truly brave.
.
If, on the other hand, you give in to your fears daily, then you need to know that you are not alone in having hundreds or even thousands of situations that are scary.  This is normal.  Celebrate each fear you overcome and stop being so hard on yourself.  Build your confidence and seek help if you need it.
.
There is no shame in fears…  we all have them.  It is what you do with your fear that defines you as a person.
PS – NLP works by changing the way your body feels in a situation.  It allows you to reverse the fear you feel and allows you to replace that feeling with the feeling of excitement or calm.  So if you have a fear of spiders, you could let a giant tarantula crawl on your arm and feel happy inside instead of feeling like screaming, running or fainting.  It’s pretty neat stuff.   Read About It Here
