Nearly every major problem that afflicts our population as a whole, can be viewed as a problem caused by over population. There are simply too many people.
Pesticides , food additives and preservatives, none of those would be needed if we didn’t have such a large population to feed, spread out over such a large geographical area.
Chlorine in the drinking water, mercury in the soil, pollution in the air, mistreatment of animals (livestock), super germs, rampant spread of diseases such as the flu…. None of these would be a problem if the human race had a smaller foot print on the planet. (AKA: Less people)
I am not treading on anyones right to procreate, but… when two people have six children, is it good for the human population as a whole? Obviously the parents decided for whatever reason that it was good for them, but what about the larger picture? Is it even good for the kids?
I think we can all make a difference if we begin treating each other with compassion. It’s easy for some people to pollute someone else’s drinking water if they lack compassion. Simply putting yourself into the shoes of the other person is all it takes. Would you want to drink polluted water?
This individual mentality of “what can I get for me” must evolve into a “what is good for us all” if we want to survive as a species.
Money is not the root of all evil. Money merely intensifies your ability to effect the world around you. You can do more good with money than you can without it. If you felt the need to use the word “evil”, it might be more fitting to say that “Selfishness is the root of all evil”.
Compassion is the solution.
Treat our food supply in a way that you would be proud to feed your own children. Take a job that helps others in some way. Think about the impact on the planet before you throw your old cellphone into the garbage. Be the change that you want to see in the world.
Compassion is contagious. Whenever you go out of your way to treat someone kindly, they in turn will treat everyone they meet that day differently. It spreads. It has an effect.
So please… for the good of every human alive…. let’s all try to live our lives with more compassion for others.
